Giving Back Update From Belle Glade

Wow.  That’s about how I would summarize my missions trip to Belle Glade this past week.  There are a few key things I learned while on my trip…

It is amazing the difference one zip code can make in stark comparisons.  On one end of Palm Beach County you have one of the richest zip codes in the nation (East by the ocean).  On the other end you have one of the poorest zip codes in all of Florida.

Belle Glade is a farming community with mostly migrant workers during harvest season.  Others who live here year round are very poor, not knowing where their next meal will come from.  It was eye opening for me to see that level of distress.  You normally would go out and order enough food for you and your family and always have left overs.  The people in Belle Glade were just happy to eat the burgers and meals my group of high schoolers made.  They would sit and talk with us, and waited for their meals.  Most would take some extra meals home for their families or neighbors.

What are you doing to give back?

Let me tell you what I am doing this week!

Greetings to all, today is a different kind of post.  Don’t worry I will pick up the ItIsEasy

again next week, but I think this is so important that I want to share it with you.

My question for you is:  What are you doing to give back?

A famous person once said, that if you have a clenched fist you can’t receive what is coming to you, the open hand let’s things flow through you.

This week I am spending 6 days with middle and high school kids in a city west of where I live.  We are going with our Student Ministries and working with the city’s youth.  We are painting buildings, spreading mulch, doing sport camps for kids, and feeding the homeless.  It is always my favorite week of the year I look forward to.  It’s more rewarding than you can imagine.  When I get back I am pumped, refreshed, and inspired (yes, even with that many kids running around J)
